Think & Drink

Maine Humanities Council

Break out your thinking caps and join the Maine Humanities Council at SPACE for this special Think & Drink discussion on the film Get Out.

Aviva Briefel, professor of English and Cinema Studies at Bowdoin College, will lead us in a look at this social thriller from the mind of Jordan Peele. Following a screening of specific scenes, we will break into small group discussion and explore the film's central themes. Haven't seen the movie yet? No problem! This event is open to the public and we'd love for you to join us.

Get Out, which was nominated for 4 Academy Awards, blends elements of horror with a gripping commentary on race in America. The film received an Oscar for best original screenplay.

About Think & Drink
We’ve all had deep discussions with our friends while we’re out at night—why not add a couple of experts to the mix and really take it up a notch? That’s the idea behind Think & Drink, a happy-hour series by Maine Humanities Council in Portland, Bangor, and other locations around the state that sparks provocative conversations about big ideas. The series invites you to participate in a facilitated public conversation with panelists who have expertise in the subject at hand. The idea isn’t to create consensus but, rather, to foster an open interplay of viewpoints and perspectives. The sessions are free and do not require registration.

About the Maine Humanities Council
The Maine Humanities Council, a statewide non-profit organization, uses the humanities— literature, history, philosophy, and culture — as a tool for positive change in Maine communities. Their programs and grants encourage critical thinking and conversations across social, economic, and cultural boundaries.
