First Friday Art Walk

This month SPACE's First Friday looks at projects that are made in Maine. In the annex, we have a show of banners made by artist Karen Gelardi and her project New Factories. Her show "Standard" is a collection of vibrant geometric fabric assemblies which are hand sewn in linen. The body of work draws upon a standard set of shapes and a colorful yet limited palette which aligns with the utopian modernist principles of the Bauhaus where artists and mass-manufacturing are reconciled. In our main room, we'll host Maine Public Broadcasting for a live mid-day edition of "Maine Calling" looking at gift ideas from Maine producers. We'll open the gallery early afternoon for visitors to meet some of the featured makers, who will be showing and selling their products throughout the afternoon and during the art walk.
