Through July and August, SPACE Gallery and Portland Downtown District put their heads together to come up with the fun-in-the-sun afternoon concerts of The Weekday Music Series. Aside from one show being canceled due to weather, they all went off without a problem and pleased the audience - whether they were fans, passersby, or workers on their lunch break in the park.

The 500s
Being a school night, the Portland Popfest last Thursday was a pretty wholesome affair, fueled by sugary juice boxes rather than the usual beer and hard liquor. Each act represented their own part of the pop spectrum: from hyper punk funjams to shimmery la-la-love and strummed quirky introspection, it was all there and worth staying up late for.

After missing a few great shows at SPACE over the last couple of weeks, I made sure not to miss the Russian-themed extravaganza this Saturday.
NYC's Alina Simone was in town on tour in support of her album Everybody Is Crying Out To Me, Beware She performed that all-Russian covers of music by folk/punk cult icon Yanka Dyagileva before concluding the set with a new original song of her own... MORE
