Last month, artists Anna Hepler and Andrea Sulzer and 12 Bowdoin College students taking Advanced Printmaking (with Anna) ventured into the old Brunswick High School, scheduled for demolition this May, to carve and print the wooden floors of 2 classrooms within 20 hours.  Together Anna and Andrea tackled one classroom floor, while the students worked collaboratively on a classroom next door.  Each floor measured roughly 20 x 30 ft. and presented a number of challenging technical issues: how to carve the  heavily varnished maple floors and how to print on such a large scale...

In April, SPACE will show the resulting two gigantic prints, along with video and photo documentation of the project’s vigorous and experimental process.

Opening reception for Carving the Floors on First Friday April 3.  Don't miss it.
